Exploration of Emotions and Artistic Identity
Through Improvisation and Episodic Memory.
Through a holistic exploration of emotions, the latest researchs about emotions (BRECVEMA framework, Juslin, 2013; “A Constructionist Approach to Emotional Experiences with Music.”, Céspedes-Guevara, 2018) has been combined and brought to an artistic point.
For this purpose, the emotions of 10 participants when listening to improvised music have been analysed. The participants are from The Netherlands, Spain, Iceland, USA, Iran, and Australia.
The methods used to analyse them have been through:
Analysis of the music they listen to on Spotify.
Video Stimulated Recall Interview (V.S.R.I)
Write and Draw
To capture the attention of the participants during the improvisation, the participants' Episodic Memory has been used, using the songs they like as a source of inspiration in the improvisation.
EPISODIC MEMORY
“All those songs that we have listened to throughout our lives and have an importance for us at a cultural, social, family, individual, cult or national level.”
Spotify Analysis - Musical Personality

WRITE AND DRAW
Participants and general audience can write and paint during the concert to express the emotions they are feeling.
